Whyteleafe 0-3 Kingstonian
THREE GAMES FROM WEMBLEY

Kingstonian managed to see off neighbours Whyteleafe at the first time of asking this season with a fine 3-0 victory to put them through to the last sixteen. The home team nearly got their four figure attendance boosted by a healthy away following who in the first half had the dlights of standing in the "Construction Site - Keep Out" Terrace.

From the offset, K's showed they were the better team, and whilst 'Leafe seemed a better side than they were at the tail end of last season, K's were more willing to compete in this one and as the game commenced, the pressure was soon piled on by the team in yellow. Gary Patterson was offered the chance to perform one of those free-kicks early on but it was not to be. Dave Leworthy went closer after reaching the end of a good Colin Luckett delivery but the contact was too soft and gave the keeper no trouble. Whyeleaf had a half chance, and also had a claim of a pass back, but the referee wisely concluded that Wayne Brown's passing could never be that accurate and play continued.

K's almost took the lead after a fine piece of work by Eddie Akuamoah. His run, and very high foot for the wee lad, saw him put through Dave Leworthy who shot way over, when Patterson was in a better opposition. But there was a nice sense of security knowing what would (hopefully) come. However, as soon as K's allow you to feel confident they shatter it all and make you feel like a nervous wreck. Steve Faralley twice had to make good punches clear from the up-and-unders of the team in green. But they were good punches and K's fans could breathe easily again.

Eddie was playing well in this one. Perhaps wanting to lose the nick-name of The Flake, as he comes with the 99, he was trying to get that elusive century goal. He came close before the half closed when he was put in by Leworthy but his shot spilled out to Scott Corbett who went quite close. From this, Whyleafe broke and attacked almost immediately. Their centre-forward had a fine shot which zoomed from right to left across the face of the goal and forced K's fans again to look for spiritual guidance. As the half finished Whyeleafe looked the stronger side. Wayne Brown made a great challenge at the feet of an attacking Leafe midfielder and an amazing humdinger of a lob was powered in by the home team's number 11 as the ball came out to him following a corner.

However, as far as the FA Trophy is concerned, Geoff Chapple wears the magic hat. And serves the magic tea. The tea caused some problems to digest though and saw the Leafe hit the side netting and saw Gary Patterson booked. But it was after this that K's finally took the lead. A clever free-kick found Leworthy to the right of the six yard line and his shot was powered at the keeper and bounced into the goal. Not the greatest of goals, but the greatest of feelings as K's were in the lead, and about time too! This caused the proverbial floodgates to at least widen a little as the second came soon after. Scot Corbett stood over the ball at the right of midfield and wisely gave to Tarkan Mustafa who deliverd a perfectly wighted chipped cross from the by-line which saw Dave Leworthy run and meet with his head scoring from a yard. It was a great goal. And a great feeling too.

The chances just kept on coming after this. Geoff Pitcher did well to set up Gary Patterson and later Dave could have got his hat-trick when he rounded the keeper but saw his shot cleared off the line by a sliding defender. Steve Farralley again earned his stripes though at the other end when a period of ping-pong in the area saw him make a good punch clear despite the time taken for the K's defence to get rid of the danger. Soon after this Farralley made an amazing save when the ball was fiercely struck to his left by the home team's substitute following a free-kick.

But Whytleafe's hopes were soon dashed again as K's won a penalty as Eddie Akuamoah fell on the left corner of the penalty area. Whilst it was a foul there was no question of anyone being sent off for it. Instead the question was whether Eddie should step up and take it to reach the magical 100 figure or if Dave Leworthy should take to get his hat-trick. Instead, regular penalty taker Colin Luckett did the honours and beautifully struck the ball with power to the right giving the 'keeper no chance.

Eddie had another chance to reach his 100 when a ball over Dave Leworhty's head saw the verteran pass the ball square to the youngster but he fired his half volley over the bar from the edge of the D. But we all know that it is what the team do that matters. And it was an impressive display that sees us only three rounds from Wembley. Whyteleafe will have to make do with Wembley in the league this season.
