Yeovil Town 1-3 Kingstonian
KINGSTONIAN HUSH HUISH

K's sit proudly at the top of The Conference tonight after a superb 3-1 win at Yeovil Town. In their first ever away game in the national league, and wearing the new 'Brazil' kit, the K's started with Scott Barrett in goal for the injured Jerome John, and Kevin Rattray playing for Francis in midfield.

There was controversy as early as the 5th minute when Gary Patterson's late lunge on full back Jamie Pitman left the Yeovil Town man with a broken ankle, and Patterson with merely a yellow card when perhaps he desrved to go. More controversy by 19 minutes when a group of players went up for the ball in the Yeovil box and the ref gave K's a penalty for a handball. Luckett converted the spot kick hitting it to his right with the 'keeper diving the other way.

Kingstonain were not really the better team at this stage to be 1-0 up. Though the defence again looked very solid, the midfield was playing very deep, as they too were having to defend, and in doing so, the forwards were not having much of a service. With K's under real pressure, it was no surprise when "the Glovers" equalised. This came in the 30th minute when Crossley blatantly, and somewhat needlessly, handled in the K's box. The decision to give the penalty was the right one, but it angered some K's fans as the linesman did not give the penalty, and it appeared the ref did not see it and only gave the award after a few seconds of Yeovil players' persuasion. The score was 1-1 at half-time.

K's looked slightly stronger in the second half and in the 56th minute they regained the lead, Stewart rising well to head in a free kick taken by Pitcher on the left. With the game more open it left space behind the Yeovil defence for the K's strike-force to do some work. In the 72nd minute Eddie went on a typical mazy run down the left and if he fell would surely have won a penalty, but he didn't, and it was still 2-1 to K's.

However, 6 minutes from time, Eddie again exploited the gaps, with a brilliant solo run this time cutting in from the right beating a defender and knocking the ball passed the stranded Yeovil keeper to send the small but noisy group of K's fans home happy.
