Saturday 24th April 1999 |
Kingstonian 0-1 Forest Green Rovers |
The Trophy dress rehearsal was a major disappointment, with an early goal for the visitors proving to be enough to win the three points, and for them to claim the "double" over K's. |
Result round-up |
Both Cheltenham and Rushden lost elsewhere whilst no more relegation issues were sorted out. Leek, however, look pretty much doomed. |
New sponsors to be revealed |
K's new sponsors will be officially revealed on Tuesday and the new shirts will be available from Wednesday. Wembley merchandise will be available from both the club and a new "special" club shop in the Apple Market. Friday 23rd April 1999 |
A big new sponsor |
The Comet reports that, not only will K's run out at Wembley in a new set of shirts, but that they will hold the name of the club's new sponsor: "Chris Kelly signed a contract last week with a new sponsor whose deal starts with the FA Trophy Final. Their identity is being kept a secret for now, but the sponsor is believed to be a big name, not a small, local firm." |

Wembley details |
The following news has been passed on by Ollie whom we'd like to thank with all of our hearts: Wembley tickets go on sale from the club on Friday April 23rd, priced 8, 13, 16 and 21.
The team will be wearing red and white at Wembley, as the club ordered the special shirts before consulting the players or Chapple, who all preferred the Brazil kit. Red flags are also on order. K's have been allocated the South dressing room, which was used by Chapple each time that he won the Trophy previously.
The players are due to take part in a photocall at Wembley Stadium on Thursday.
The Football Association is to pay for 20 people to stay at a hotel for two nights over the weekend of the final. Sadly, Kingsmeadow cannot be used for any post-final celebrations as it has been booked up. It is said to be "too expensive" to cancel the bookings, even though this means that other arrangements now have to be made. |
A meeting for supporters and directors |
A meeting for supporters, directors and anyone else interested is to be held at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday April 27th, the day after the Hednesford away game. |
New pitch to be laid |
The Kingsmeadow pitch is due to be ripped up on May 1st and replaced by a new one. The replacement is said to be unlike the current one in that it will have grass on. Revolutionary. |

The report of Saturday's first leg is finished. |
Telegraph: KINGSTONIAN PROMISE FULL-STRENGTH TURN-OUT |
From today's Telegraph: KINGSTONIAN PROMISE FULL-STRENGTH TURN-OUT by Nicholas Harling The Kingstonian team who visit Nationwide Conference leaders Cheltenham tomorrow will be strong enough to pass scrutiny by the Football Association. Of that, Rushden & Diamonds can now be sure. Brian Talbot, Rushden's manager, could have been excused for believing the odds were stacked against his club's pursuit of Cheltenham had Kingstonian manager Geoff Chapple stuck to his original promise of "stuffing my side with reserves" for the league game that comes between the two legs of the FA Trophy semi-final between the clubs. Chapple, however, was calling a different tune after Saturday's first meeting had finished 2-2. "I'm definitely putting out a full-strength side on Tuesday," he said. "We owe it to Rushden to do that."
Steve Cotterill, the Cheltenham manager, would just love to field his strongest side. Injuries force him to play John Brough, normally a centre-half, up front. Brough, nevertheless, came up with the second equaliser on Saturday, eluding the otherwise magnificent Steve Farrelly in Kingstonian's Chapple will be expecting more resistance from his side in this week's two encounters at Whaddon Road. "The goals we gave away were Sunday morning stuff," he said. "It was woeful defending." |
Leek sack their manager? |
It is rumoured that Leek Town have sacked their manager, Ernie Moss and have appointed John Rudge on a temporary basis. |
Sunday 11th April 1999 |
Kingstonian 2-2 Cheltenham Town |
The first of three meetings this week ended in a draw yesterday, as K's twice let a lead slip. The goals were scored by Simon Stewart and Geoff Pitcher. The other semi-final, between Forest Green and St Albans, ended 1-1. |
Result round-up |
Woking climb above K's in the table for the first time this season, as they beat Farnborough four-nil. K's now sit in eighth place, but with two games in hand on Surrey's second team. |
Saturday 10th April 1999 |
Hereford match report |
The report of yesterday's reserve game(!) is now ready. |
Friday 9th April 1999 |
Hereford United 2-0 Kingstonian |
A largely reserve side lost at Edgar Street last night. |
Thursday 8th April 1999 |
Reserves details |
The reserves won 5-1 last night, but didn't win the league, as they still need 3 points from Saturday's game. Several of the normal squad were rested as they are due to play tonight - Simon Langley, Dean Thomas, Gary Drewett, Franklin Dixon and Mike Lester are all in the squad. |
New date for Hednesford away |
The Hednesford away game is now scheduled for Monday April 26th 1999. |

Reserves look set to be champions |
The reserves are playing at home tomorrow (Wednesday) and are almost certain to clinch their league title. Kick off at Kingsmeadow is at 7.30pm. |
Monday 5th April 1999 |
Kingstonian 1-0 Dover Athletic |
A sixth minute Kevin Rattray goal saw K's home with all three points as they failed to make their pressure count with more goals. |
Result round-up |
Cheltenham look to have practically tied up the league with a 1-0 win at home to Kidderminster whilst Rushden could only draw at Woking. Thursday's opponents Hereford put four past Forest Green. |
Thursday's coach to Hereford leaves Kingsmeadow at 2.45pm |
|
Sunday 4th April 1999 |
Hayes 3-0 Kingstonian |
Geoff Chapple, presumably at the Rushden v Cheltenham match, missed a rather inept display by his charges which saw Hayes come out three nil winners. There were starts for Kofi Nyamah returned from his trial at Cambridge, Tom White in place of the injured Matt Crossley and Simon Langley for the suspended Gary Patterson. The report is now ready. |
Injury news |
Some news on the injury front: Matt Crossley has a calf problem which may keep him out for next week's semi-final, Geoff Pitcher has a slight problem which meant that he was just a substitute yesterday, Scott Corbett is out due to a poisonous gnat bite (note: this is not a late April Fools joke!) and Alex Willgrass, whose last game was at Dover in December, is due to undergo an operation on his knee this week. |
Result round-up |
At the top of the table, Kettering returned to the summit with a 2-1 win at Leek, whilst two last minute goals were enough to secure a 2-1 win for Cheltenham at a packed - the crowd was 6,312 - Nene Park. Cheltenham now lead Rushden by two points, and also have a game in hand. Kettering meanwhile, are just one point ahead, despite having played four more games. K's have slipped to seventh. |
Friday 2nd April 1999 |
More additions to the squad |
According to Non-League on the Net, Tom Beech, a striker, has joined K's from Lewes whilst Franklyn Dixon, another striker, has signed from "local football". |
Monday's game kicks off at 3pm |
Monday's game with Dover definitely kicks off at 3pm, as do all other Conference matches. |
