November 1999

Tuesday 30th November 1999
Result round-up
There were lots of games tonight - most importantly Altrincham held Nuneaton to a 2-2 draw in the Conference. In the FA Cup, both Hayes and Enfield lost in replays, whilst Rushden won 3-0 meaning that K's will almost certainly be facing Yeovil away on Saturday December 11th (subject to confirmation).

Saturday 27th November 1999
Folkestone Invicta 0-1 Kingstonian
The defence of the FA Trophy started with an unconvincing performance by K's, but Luke Basford's superb second half goal took the holders through to the third round. The draw is to be held on Monday at Nottingham Forest's ground.

Result round-up
Elsewhere, the biggest shock of the day was arguably at Guiseley, where Conference league leaders Nuneaton lost two-nil. Northwich Victoria lost two-nil at Runcorn, while next week's opponents Kidderminster lost 4-2 at home to Telford.

Two new signings imminent?
Chapple is set to sign two new players, from a collection of three. Two strikers and one defender are said to be the targets.

Fixture updates
The next round of the Trophy will be played on January 15th, meaning that the home game with Nuneaton will be postponed. Meanwhile, December 11th will see K's either play Yeovil away, if Rushden beat Ilkeston in Tuesday night's FA Cup replay, or Rushden at home if they lose.

Last night's open forum
Last night's open forum saw Chris Kelly say that the ground would be good enough for league football if and when the inspectors come on April 1st. The athletics end will be completely re-done, seats will be added to the main stand and crash barriers will be put into the other two sides. If we get promoted, then the rest of the work will start. Many thanks to Ollie for informing us.

Three out for Folkestone
We've been informed that Geoff Pitcher, Derek Allan and "somebody else good" are all out of Saturday's game with Folkestone due to suspension.

Sunday 21st November 1999
Kingstonian 0-1 Doncaster Rovers
K's dropped to second place after losing their second league game in a row. Eddie Akuamoah was still out injured (although he ran around the pitch after the game) whilst the bench had a different look about it. This is because Dwight Marshall has joined Slough on loan for a month, with Danny Smith joining Hampton permanently.

Nuneaton match report
The report of last week's defeat at Nuneaton is now ready. Sorry for the delay.

Result round-up
In yesterday's other games, Nuneaton could only draw with Telford, Yeovil beat Sutton and Dover continued their amazing run beating Southport.

An open forum this Thursday
There will be a meeting for all K's Supporters this Thursday evening when the first of Peter Borrett's open forums takes place. Chris Kelly has promised to be there and the main subject will be the ground development. We saw that this had started in earnest on Saturday, with two holes being dug and then filled in again.

Saturday 13th November 1999
Nuneaton Borough 2-0 Kingstonian
K's lost to the third placed team last night, yet remain on top of the table. This is because, in this weekend's other games, Yeovil amazingly hammered Rushden 5-1 while Kidderminster continued their amazing run of form beating Southport 5-0 to move into fifth.

Hampton & Richmond Reserves 1-3 Kingstonian Reserves
Ollie informs us that K's reserves won 3-1 in the first leg of the suburban champions cup semi final away to Hampton & Richmond. Nobody turned up, so he was "very lonely." Dean Thomas, James Taylor and some bloke called Dale scored. Lots of good talent shown from the K's players in general, especially Kevin Clarke, one to watch. The 2nd leg is at Kingsmeadow next tuesday.

John Edwards - an apology
Apologies to John Edwards, who is, and always has been, a member of the Supporters' Club committee. Somehow John's name was missed off of our EGM report and we are happy to clear up any confusion. John was not implicated in any wrong-doing and we are pleased to announce that he is still a part of the committee.

Kingstonian 1-0 Welling United
A cheeky Phil Wingfield goal was enough to ensure that K's return to the top of the table for the second time this season.

This was becuase, elsewhere, Rushden could only draw with Dover, Nuneaton drew with Woking whilst those other title hopefuls - Yeovil - lost to Hednesford.

Supporters' Club EGM - a report
A report of tonight's SC EGM is ready. The main points are: the previous treasurer of the Supporters' Club (Mike Powell) allegedly "borrowed" 3,500 from the account; Mark Murphy, Brian Newman and Dick Smith have resigned; the rest of the committee has been re-elected.

Chris Kelly has said that we may proceed with the ground redevelopment
In other matters, Lawrence Cooley said, and we quote, that "Chris Kelly has said that we may proceed with the ground redevelopment even though we still require John Prescott to rubber stamp the plans. But this might not be a totally reliable source - but don't quote me on that".

BBC Ceefax: K'S WIN PLANNING APPROVAL
As on Ceefax last night:

K'S WIN PLANNING APPROVAL

Kingstonian have been granted planning premission to bring their ground up to what they hope will be league standard.

Kingston Borough Council approved planning permission for development of thei Kingsmeadow ground from 4500 seats to 6000 seats.

The Ks must now complete the building by the League's April 1 deadline.

If Geoff Chapple's side win the Nationwide Conference, they must have their ground upgraded by then to gain admission to Division Three.

Tuesday 2nd November 1999
Sutton United 2-2 Kingstonian
Despite being two goals to the good, Ks were clawed back to a draw at Gander Green Lane. A report can be viewed.

Result round-up
The draw leaves K's still one point off the top as Rushden and Nuneaton drew in today's other big game.

A letter from Councillor Steve Mama
The following has been sent to all local resident's of Kingsmeadow - many thanks to Danny O'Sullivan for passing it on:

Kingston upon Thames

0181 549 4275 (Home)
0181 547 5147 (Office)

Dear Fellow Resident,

TOWN & COUNTY PLANNING ACT, 1990 (As Amended)
Proposed Redevelopment of Kingsmeadow to Increase Capacity
from 4580 to 7,000 and Additional Catering, and Other Facilities

I write to inform you that the long awaited planning application to redevelop the Kingstonians Football Club is to be considered by the Council's Planning & Development Committee, on Tuesday, 2nd November, 1999.

The meeting of the Committee, due at 7.30pm, is to be held at the Guildhall and it is open to the public.

I will not attempt to describe the application suffice it to say if implemented, it will have a major impact on the neighbourhood in terms of parking, noise, litter etc. and it would impact on the amenities of nearby residences in a very significant way.

For example, one of the proposed stands would be seven metres closer to the rear of the residential properties in Kingston Road than the current stand. In addition, it would be three metres higher than the present one.

Another objectionable aspect is the lack of car parking facilities within the club grounds. No additional parking spaces within the site are proposed. Furthermore, the site area required to carry out this major redevelopment is beyond that currently within the curtilage of the club, and therefore the club needs to extend its boundaries to the north and south, over land that is designated as Metropolitan Open Land, dedicated to the enjoyment of all Kingston residents.

I would urge you therefore, irrespective of whether you objected at the time of the public advertisement or not, to attend the open meeting on Tuesday and show your disapproval of such a monstrous development; although the public are not allowed to speak on planning applications, I am sure you will find ways of showing and making your feelings known.

Please make an effort; it is your environment which is under threat.

Yours sincerely,

Councillor Steve Mama.
