The New Official Site

So what's happened?
As you may have realised by now, K's Web has become "the official web site for Kingstonian FC". Whether you are an occasional or regular visitor the change should have very little effect on you. All of the pages that were available in the "old" K's Web are still here (although they've been given a nice new lick of paint) and there are now several new additions (see below).

However, there are several additional pages available with information concerning the club - for example a page about the facilities at Kingsmeadow, a commercial page and an online club shop.

As well as this, Ali Kazemi, previously of Kingstonian Online, has agreed to join the team and to combine the best bits of both sites.

So what's the point?
For some time K's Web was seen as the first port of call for people to get information about Kingstonian FC, and this will continue to be the case. However, this change should now mean that the pages which bring money into the club will get more exposure. Also, the image of the club will be improved as they now have a web site which is up to date and to which they can point potential customers/investors.

So how did it come about?
On the day that Bill Williams was unveiled to the world's media, director Malcolm Grant approached the author of the then unofficial K's Web and asked whether he'd be interested in becoming "official". The new manager asked a similar question a few minutes later and discussions began. Once the basic principle had been agreed it was simply a case of working out what needed to be done, and how best to do it.

So who gets to say what gets published?
The club have been very keen not to produce a "sanitised" version of K's Web. One of the reasons people visited in numbers was because the site contained news - and not just the good news. This situation will continue, but the new status of the site will mean that there will be less reliance on local newspapers and the rumour mill. When something happens you'll be able to read it here first.

The site will still contain interesting pieces of gossip - some of it no doubt wildly inaccurate - and match reports will still be able to contain quotes such as "he looked up, saw Spink rushing out, made a mess in his pants and jumped clear of the challenge".

So will it be better?
Of course it will be! All of the pages which were available at the end of last season are still here, and some new facilities have been added. For example:
  • There is now a "Directors' Forum" [here] (registration required) which is intended to be used when people want to ask a question of the Board of Directors.

  • There is now a Supporters' Club section [here] which will allow people to find out how to join and what is going on.

  • As you may have seen, match reports will now contain photos from the ground.

  • The league table [here] now shows home and away totals.

  • The appearances page [here] has been improved, allowing you to see each match in which a player has taken part, along with their shirt number, goals, cautions and inside leg measurement.

  • The league results grid [here] now has the date of every league game.

  • The links page [here] has been expanded, and it will now be kept up to date too!

  • The man of the match voting system has been fixed so that people will always be allowed to vote (hooray!).

  • Every page has a "View a printer friendly version" link to avoid wasting all of that black ink.

  • There is now an "About K's Web" page [here] so that you can find out how this all began all those years ago.

  • The site now uses stylesheets, which probably means nothing to most people, but which is very very useful to the authors.

  • And there's still more to come...
  •
So what if something doesn't work?
Bear with us. Changing the site over has taken a lot of work, and no doubt there will be a few teething problems. You can help though, by telling us what the problem is.
