Capped by England at U17 level, Ahmet started at Charlton Athletic before moving to Reading where, after impressing in the academy and reserve sides, he was promoted to the senior squad aged sixteen. The then Royals manager was quoted as saying that he was the most advanced player of that age he had seen in his five years at the club. Appeared once on loan at Hornchurch at the start of the season before joining K's on loan from Reading.
