Woking 0-0 Kingstonian
THE POINT OF BOXING DAY

K's and Woking left the field with a point a piece after this dull goalless draw which will do nothing to ease the relegation fears of both sides. Pre match talk was all about whether Junior Kadi would play, general consensus being that he probably wouldn't be allowed to, although he did appear as a second half substitute.

K's started ok, and had the best chance of the half, if not the game when Derek Allan headed against both the crossbar and the post before the ball was scrambled clear. It would be K's only real sight of goal, and set pieces would mark their best chances of any kind of result given that Eddie was the lone ranger up front, and more often than not dropped back into midfield to form a 5-5-0 formation.

Woking twice went close before the break, almost identical chances, the ball flicked from the near post following corners but no one being able to connect either time. Eddie Saunders went close from a corner, but generally K's were playing with the confidence of a struggling side and seemed content to hold out for a draw.

Pitcher was the next to go close, just failing to connect with a header following a good driving run by full back Mark Beard. Five minutes before the break Mark Harris, who had been struggling, was replaced by Mark Jones, Colin Luckett reverting to centre back allowing Jones the freedom of the left wing.

It was Jones who created K's first chance of the second half, combining well with Phil Wingfield, but the giant figures of Pitcher and Akuamoah failed to connect with his high cross. Having seen the result of Jones cross Wingfield decided that a shot would be better than a cross from an acute angle, but his fierce drive was well held by the keeper.

Junior Kadi was introduced with about 15 minutes on the clock and before he had touched the ball sent Eddie flying, earning himself a booking for his calous efforts. Flying was to be the theme of Wokings next attack, a theatrical dive in the box being rejected by the referee. K's introduced their own substitute soon after but the K's fat man wasn't delivering any christmas presents unlike his sleigh driving counterpart.

A point and a clean sheet then. K's defended well but a bit more ambition up front may have reaped rewards as Woking didn't look particularly solid at the back . Hopefully it will be one of those 'confidence boosting' draws that everyone attaches to struggling sides when they gain a point. If it is something to build on then hopefully K's can indeed build on it when they visit the Drill Field on Saturday in search of a much needed 3 points.
