Kingstonian 2-0 Chessington United
DEBUT BOY LUKES GOOD

Kingstonian's entry into this season's Surrey Senior Cup, at the fourth round stage, paired them with Chessington United from the Combined Counties League - a club strongly linked with the White Hart pub in that part of the Royal Borough.

A strong side was fielded by Kim Harris, with the only significant differences on the team sheet being the inclusion of second choice 'keeper Adrian Jones and young hotshot Luke Fontana - fresh from scoring five goals in the reserves' Surrey Premier Cup clash against Raynes Park Vale a fortnight earlier.

Fontana was quick to get into the game and combined with Tim Sills and Liam Collins as K's set about seizing the initiative. Chessington 'keeper Danny Andrews was largely untested in the opening stages, with just a header from Sills thrown at him. Andrews grabbed at the ball and just about managed to hold onto it, and the 'keeper would have been pleased that it didn't come near him again for another ten minutes or so. And, midway through the half, his goal was threatened again, though the extent of the danger was a scuffed James Pinnock shot and a looping shot from Sills that Andrews managed to take without much trouble.

The comfort zone at the rear of the Chessington team was suddenly fully stretched when a Tim Sills ball aimed for Luke Fontana on the far post was clipped away by Darren Barnes. The ensuing corner saw a Sills header cleared off the line by Paul O'Sullivan and the reasonably healthy Surrey Cup crowd were now ready and awaiting the onslaught.

The three minutes' attacking was a false dawn, for K's attacked no more. At the other end, the visitors had barely ventured into the final third, and so the game turned into a turgid midfield affair that was only put an end to by the half time interval.

The second half started slowly, though Tim Sills had a chance to open the scoring having cut inside his defender following a probing run by Liam Collins. With Craig Lewington racing forward in support, Sills ended up hitting the ball against the onrushing goalkeeper.

It was once again Chessington's Darren Barnes who was the starting point of a dangerous Kingstonian attack. Though this time, there was no defending involved as the centre back's stray carved an opening for lucky recipient Luke Fontana. Danny Andrews came rushing out of his goal but the young striker was calm enough to lob the 'keeper from the edge of the box to mark his first team debut with a goal.

The goal excluded, and the half was beginning to look as barren as the first before Tim Sills connected with a James Pinnock corner. A deflection off Paul O'Sullivan - first half goal-line clearance hero - helped the ball as it found the back of the net to double the lead.

A mix up between Andrews and his full back Danny Greenleaf almost let Fontana in for another goal after the striker charged down an attempted clearance, though the ball flew wide of the target. Fontana's replacement, Ronnie Green, gave the Chessington rearguard some problems with the returning striker sending in a couple of efforts on goal.

As the game drew to a close came Chessington's goalscoring chance as they threatened Adrian Jones' goal with three successive quick-fire shots. The goal didn't come, neither did it for K's substitute David Ocquaye who managed to head a James Pinnock cross over from almost under the bar in almost the final move of the game.

All in all, K's moved safely through to the quarter final stage after a game best described as comfortable. The full attacking force demonstrate in league games may not have been on display, but the side did all that was required to move through to the quarter final stage and their next Combined Counties opponents, Ash United.
