Kingstonian 0-0 Bedford Town
CLEAN SHEETS ALL ROUND

A second successive Ryman League 'six-pointer' was competed at Kingsmeadow, this time with Bedford Town the visitors.

Stuart Booth and Grant Payne returned to action for Kingstonian following the midweek Surrey Cup exit, Bashiru Alimi and Scott Steele sitting out.

Barely four minutes into the game and Lance Key was the early centre of attention. Having mis-cued a clearance, the K's goalkeeper did well to deny Chris Dillon with a flying block, before the striker picked up the rebound only to steer wide of the goal with Key again scrambling.

Bedford might have taken the lead ten minutes later when Drew Roberts low drive through a crowd of players only to be denied by the post.

A left-sided Dave Timothy cross broke free following a blocked Grant Payne strike before being gathered by a quick-moving Ian Brown in the Bedford goal before Stafford Browne could pounce.

Constantly involved in the action, Roberts dropped in to a deep wide position to find Daniel Purzyaki with a raking crossfield pass, though his teammate was unable to take advantage of his sight on goal as his shot was well blocked by Key's legs.

A neat one-two between Grant Payne and Stafford Browne just before the break almost set the latter clean through on goal, though Brown was once again quick to come off his line to stifle the danger.

Five minutes gone into the second period, an Anthony Savage corner was met with a Browne header excelled upon only by Brown's flying one-handed save to deny an otherwise certain goal.

A cross by Dave Timothy following a weaving run down the left seemed to cause confusion between Brown and his defenders, though Eddie Lawley's header carried to safety.

Purzyaki, seeking to repay Roberts for the earlier ball received, stole the ball from Max Hustwick and played through to his striker who worked past the covering defenders only to strike wide of Key's goal.

A swift move by Kingstonian, starting with Stuart Booth's ball across to Aaron Gilbert saw the pacy youngster's cross just eluding a touch from friend or foe as it flew across the face of goal.

A succession of late corners almost saw K's claim the win when Browne's powerful header flew not far over the bar.

From a game that nearly threatened to produce a goal, a share of the points was probably a fair result. Both teams will however know that on such tight margins are league positions settled.
