Ford United 0-1 Kingstonian
K's Beat Ford Away

You have to go back to a damp breezy night in Harrow last November to find when the K's last won a league game away. On a cold night in Barkingside the Motormen gave it full throttle in the first half, but squandered a series of good chances to take the lead. Whatever K's manager Kim Harris said at half-time to his men it certainly did the trick. K's then looked far more confident and comfortable on the ball and enjoyed some lengthy periods of pressure, but with little real threat in the Motormen's box.The game seemed to be petering out with a point apiece, until three minutes to go when K's sub striker Dave Oquaye popped up and belted the ball home to cheer up the travelling K's hardcore.

It was all Ford for the first 45 minutes. Craig Edwards was an unwelcome guest deep in the K's in the first minute but a break from Liam Collins saw his cross from the right headed against the bar from a nervous Ford defender Ben Lewis. Winger Alex Fiddes then nipped into the K's box, slipped the ball past the outcoming Lance Key, but Matt Elverson was on hand to clear from his own goalmouth. A long high ball from Lewis was well caught by Key whose handling was as reliable as ever throughout the game. Allan McLeod then launched a series of dangerous inswinging corners. On 18 minutes Lewis headed one into the K's goalmouth where Richard Halle tried to force it home but Key was there. Then striker Glen Poole took off down the left and picked out Robbie Reinelt in the K's box but he was stopped in his tracks by Elverson which resulted in a half-hearted penalty appeal. K's best chance came on 36 minutes when Motormen keeper Jamie Lunan rushed out of his box to canon the ball off Martyn Williams, the K's striker chased the spinning the ball into the box but was unlucky with the bounce and the keeper recovered. Another cross from Poole found an unmarked Fiddes but his header was easy for Key on his line. Then Key caught another curling cross from Fiddes. With two minutes to the break Key did well to push away a surprising near post corner from McLeod with Poole in attendance. The half ended with a Poole run and cross from the left flank that was wide.

The second half though saw an insurgent K's. On 49 minutes skipper Mark Beard tried an edge of the box strike that Lunan held at the second attempt. The pressure led to a Stafford Browne free-kick on the edge of the Ford box but he struck the ball disappointly over. On 57 minutes K's were unlucky not to take the lead. Williams broke into the home box down the right and his low drive beat a full-stretch Lunan but was wide of the far post. Ford though should have replied with a goal. McLeod from the right found Fiddes deep in the K's box in plenty of space but he dragged his drive wide, much to his own irritation. Dave Ocquaye took off down the right but blasted over. O 74 minutes Bashiru Alimi set Ocquaye free down the left but he shot too early to worry Lunan. Collins was busy down the right flank the whole half and he tried a drive from distance that went over. Sub Tony Lock then broke into the K's box but Max Hustwick coolly made a well-timed tackle. With 10 minutes to go a Scott Smith free-kick deep into the Motormen box was only half-cleared to Elverson on the edge of the box but his drive deflected wide off a colleague. It looked like an entertaining stalemate until the 87th minute when a cross from Collins out on the right found an unmarked DAVE OCQUAYE on the Ford penalty spot. His fiercely struck right-footed volley struck the roof of the net off Lunan's chest. After that Ocquaye kept the ball out on the left corner flag until an Alimi cross tried to find unmarked sub Aaron Gilbert in the Ford goalmouth, but the youngster just failed to connect.
