Kingstonian 2-0 AFC Hornchurch

For the second time in three weeks Ks faced the Urchins of Essex but however this time they breezed to an easier than expected win at home.

In the first attack of the game, after a lengthy 17 minutes, Simon Huckle headed down across the goal and into the back of the net. And with barely three minutes of the second half John Fletcher seemed to have headed another ball into the goal, only for Elliot Styles from Hornchurch to have actually out-jumped him and met the ball firmly before putting it in the back of the net.

A slow start to the game continued beyond the quarter-hour and it was not until the first corner that Matt Gray's kick found Bobby Traynor on the right who lifted the ball high enough for Huckle to head back in across the goal.

Five minutes later at the other end AFC Hornchurch tried the same move but this time Styles could only header wider across the goal mouth and see Gray clear it. But it was a slow process as the Essex side began to press forward although they never really could press in the final third. Indeed their best attack, by Tomerson Eyan, ended with Max Hustwick making a pinpoint tackle in front of the D.

At the other end Kingstonian were hardly motoring up but they were able to create better chances. In the 38th minute Christian Jolley was guilty of wasteful finishing as he shot wide from Fletcher's pass. Then Jolley's header in went wide after a cross in by Hustwick.

In injury time Bash Alimi won a free kick 25 yards out in a central position but Traynor's inventive shot around the wall went straight to Darren Behcet in goal. However this was soon to change as the second half began.

Within three minutes Gray's free kick from the left went towards the far post and with Fletcher aiming for a header, Styles behind him headed the ball back down and into the middle of the net instead.

Within minutes another header saw Behcet clutch in the air only for the ball to somehow escape the clutches of the stranded keeper but also anyone else up front. With the game now swinging in the hosts' favour a bigger scoreline was to be expected, especially as Hornchurch's attacks were looking more toothless. However with the second half almost at the halfway stage substitute Ronsard Kemi got around Grey on the right before trying to chip Tolfrey only for the ball to go short of the near post.

Another chip minutes later by Jo flack failed to trouble Tolfrey however as he easily caught the ball. At the other end Jolley fashioned some space before passing to Gray, whose low cross into the area hit Huckle and rebounded straight out. A corner kick from Gray went slightly too far for Carl Wilson-Denis. Gray's 35 yard shot then went amiss.

That ought to have been it for the game with 10 minutes to go as chances were becoming sparser and sparser but for those last minutes Kingstonian found themselves down to 10 with Alimi shown a second yellow when he blocked a quickly taken free kick.

If the Urchins were to salvage a result they had to show some urgency but they did not. Only Kemi's cross from the right in the 85th minute, which was palmed away to the left by Tolfrey, troubled the defence and indeed in injury time Styles was substituted for John Spencer.
