Maidstone United 1-3 Kingstonian
MAIDSTONE TURN-ER SHOCKER

All non-league players make mistakes, though it is goalkeepers' who are particularly remembered, and Maidstone's Jamie Turner made a name for himself among Ks fans with a pair of horrific blunders that gifted the visitors three points.

With the game poised at 1-1 with twenty minutes remaining, Turner let a Dean Lodge shot that was at best moderately powerful squirm straight through his legs. Three minutes from time his misery, and Maidstone's, was complete when he allowed Christian Jolley to rob the ball from literally under his nose and score an open goal. Football can be a cruel game, and for nobody moreso than goalkeepers.

The first half had not been characterised by much action, with Luke Garrard making just two saves, from long-range efforts, and Turner not having a single potential goal to prevent.

Not for the first time, Lodge breathed life into the moribund game after the break, first fizzing a shot over the crossbar and then winning a penalty when his pace was too much for the lunging Jay Saunders. Bobby Traynor converted yet another spotkick with customary precision.

Eight minutes later the scores were level. Former Ks man James Pinnock broke down the left and before he could test Garrard he was felled by Rob Sheridan. Garrard saved Pinnock's first penalty but a retake was ordered due to encroachment and second time round he sent the Ks goalkeeper the wrong way to tie the scores.

The game opened up a lot at this point, with Maidstone flashing a dangerous cross through the six yard box and Lodge forcing a save from Turner after a goalmouth scramble. It was a magnificent save from Turner, but unfortunately for him, it was not what he would be remembered for in the game.

Ks retook the lead on 70 minutes, when Alimi, who had his best game since returning to the club, teed up Lodge. The winger's shot was disappointing, but nonetheless good enough to restore Ks' lead when Turner made the sort of error that goalkeepers have nightmares about.

A few minutes later it was Garrard's turn to make a great save, from a Lynden Rowland header, and any hope the Stones had of salvaging a point evaporated when Jolley added Ks third, again to the embarrassment of Turner. There was time for one more bad error, when a bobbling ball caused Traynor to kick the ball straight up in the air from barely a yard out, but the game was deep enough into stoppage time that he could laugh about his mistake rather than rue it.
