Wealdstone 2-2 Kingstonian

Kingstonian recovered from a disastrous start to record a 2-2 draw at Wealdstone. The game was not must-win, but was certainly one they needed to avoid losing, as Wealdstone still loom ominously close to Ks in the league table with a plethora of games in hand.

With that in mind, Ks would struggle to have made a worse start. After Carl Wilson-Denis had blazed over early on, the home side took the lead in just the third minute. Danny Spendlove broke down the right, getting in behind wing-back Christian Jolley, and slotted the ball past Rob Tolfrey.

Just a minute later, the hosts were two to the good. Chris O'Leary was unmarked following a corner and headed home with ease, to leave Alan Dowson wondering just how long his afternoon was going to be.

Somehow, Ks pulled a goal back immediately. The superb Bashiru Alimi made a bursting run deep into Wealdstone's half and played Wilson-Denis in on goal. This time the striker made no mistake, slotting the ball past Sean Thomas to get Ks back into the game - in just the fifth minute.

Fans expecting a goal feast went disappointed, as the net did not ripple again for another 85 minutes, when Wilson-Denis eventually grabbed an equaliser by lashing home a Lodge cross. It was a huge goal for Ks' playoff hopes and a major dent to Weladstone, though both sides had squandered chances to win the game.

Tolfrey had to save superbly in the first half from Matt McClure and Ryan Ashe came close, while at the other end Bobby Traynor whistled one effort past the post and was unable to turn a loose ball in from inside the six-yard box.

A Francis Duku error presented Spendlove with a one-on-one, but Tolfrey did well to save diving to his left, before blocking again from Callum Martin. The persistent Ks side held on though, thanks largely to their goalkeeper, even though they rarely threatened themselves. A tame Jolley effort was the best they did until the very end.

The equaliser came eventually though and Ks even threatened an unlikely win, when Thomas spilled a Matt Gray free kick right into his six-yard box only to watch with relief as one of his defenders got to the ball before Traynor.
