Harrow Borough 1-0 Kingstonian

Kingstonian left their striker boots at home as they squandered a series of goal chances to go down to an undeserved loss at Harrow.

The single goal came after only 11 minutes after Rob Tolfrey conceded a corner as he pushed the ball around the post from a header off Dewayne Clarke. From the corner Wayne Walters fed Kenta Nakashima on the right, who slotted in low from less than 10 yards.

And effectively that was it for most of the game as far as the hosts were concerned. Kingstonian, after two wins the previous week, had other plans.

Within minutes Bobby Traynor was up the other end of the field attacking. A pass through the defence found Ian Pearce unmarked and goal-side about 10 yards out. Unfortunately Pearce could only kick the ball high over the bar from the angle on the right.

Pearce then followed this up with another chance as once again he got goal-side of the defence in the area, albeit slightly further out. And once again he failed to capitalise as he could only chest the ball weakly to Nick Jupp in goal.

The visitors continued to dominate the play and possession with Harrow rarely getting more than a touch on the ball, but it was Tolfrey who saved blushes when a pinpoint cross by Ryan Watts was pushed into touch. From the corner Tolfrey pushed the ball away.

Normality was soon restored with Paul Vines denied twice around the half-hour. First a timely tackle saw him dispossessed in front of goal and then a header went weakly to Jupp. Gary MacDonald then kicked the ball over the bar under pressure before Pearce once again shot over from 15 yards.

The end of the half then saw Nakashima denied by Tolfrey as Clarke counter-attacked up the left from Pearce's wayward strike on goal and the resultant goal kick.

The second half saw Harrow livelier although it was Vines who had the first chance on the hour before on the counter-attack Nakashima took the ball up the left before crossing to Evandro Delgado. With only Tolfrey to beat, Delgado's first touch let him down and the ball rolled away from him and into Tolfrey's hands. Vines was then denied by Jupp, before Danny Hart almost punished poor defending from Ks, only for the MacDonald to clear off the line.

At the right end Max Hustwick saw his cross shoot over the bar and then Sam Clayton's cross was too strong for anyone to head it into the goal as it went out the other end of the area. For Clayton that was the last action as he became the third person to be substituted. Simon Huckle replaced him. Earlier Pearce and then Allan Tait were taken off.

While Kingstonian were starting to dominate again, it was still Borough who had more of the clear cut scoring chances - as they had had throughout the second half. Hart was only able to shoot weakly at Tolfrey.

However Vines was denied the equaliser when he bundled the ball over the line after the referee decided that taking Jupp with it was foul play. And in injury time, with no apparent pressure, Harrow defender Daniel McGonigle headed the ball down towards goal, only for Traynor to pounce on the loose ball. The low shot went just wide of the left upright from about 10 yards out.

If only a couple of the open chances had hit the target and if only the dominance in possession at times had created more chances then Kingstonian would be looking at recovering a play-off place rather than a mid-table place. However it is congested above them and on another day this will be a classy win.
