Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Kingstonian

In six previous visits to Tonbridge Angels, Ks had never won and despite leading, and at times playing some excellent football, this game would not break that streak as the Kent side capitalised on errors by Rob Tolfrey and Tom Bird to secure a point. On the overall balance of play it was a fair result - Tonbridge were far the better side in the last quarter of the game, but the manner of the equaliser frustrated Alan Dowson, who once again bemoaned his defence and spoke of further forays into the transfer market.

Ola Sogbanmu, one of two debutant loanees, fired wide early on before Frannie Collin forced Rob Tolfrey to block an early effort. The Ks goalkeeper then saved well from Ben Judge before Tom Bird cut in from the left to give home keeper Lee Worgan his first significant test.

Ks began to look much the better side near the end of the half, with the excellent Francis Quarm firing narrowly over before Ks took the lead through Matt Gray. Gray seemed to take an age to line his free kick it up but it was worth the wait, deflecting in off the underside of the bar to leave Worgan with no chance.

The Angels' goal led a charmed life in the last five minutes before half time, with Simon Huckle forcing Worgan into a good save, Tobi Jinadu clipping the bar with a header and then Huckle striking the post with another effort.

Tonbridge somehow made it to the break level but did little more to impose themselves on the game after the interval, with Worgan keeping them in the game. Sogbanmu forced a save with a decent shot, he tipped a Huckle header over after it had bounced into the ground, blocked a fierce Jinadu strike and then watched with relief when his defenders just about got in the way of Bobby Traynor's follow-up.

Ks were made to pay for their profligacy though in the 64th minute. Tolfrey mis-kicked a clearance straight to Jay May, Bird then skewed May's chip straight back to him, and the ex-Dartford striker beat Tolfrey with a powerful strike.

Conceding seemed to rock Ks' confidence and from that point on Tonbridge dominated the game, although Worgan had to bravely come out of him goal to deny Huckle in a one-on-one.

The home side's full-backs were increasingly getting forward, allowing them to dominate possession in front of Ks' back five. Sonny Mills headed over, Tolfrey saved a Rory Hill free kick before Ks scrambled the rebound away and then denied Collin in injury time. On the balance of play the draw was about fair, and a good point for Ks against a tough side, but the errors at both ends left Dowson a frustrated man and Ks ruing what might have been.
