Cray Wanderers 0-0 Kingstonian

Kingstonian earned a creditable share of the points at promotion-chasing Cray Wanderers, but were left frustrated that failure to take one of numerous first half chances prevented them from grabbing a victory.

Ks returned to the 4-5-1 formation that had brought a recent run of success, with Bobby Traynor dropped to the bench. And the shape seemed to pay dividends in the first half as Ks dominated possession and created the bulk of the chances.

In just the third minute, Gary MacDonald headed narrowly over from a corner. Ryan Woods, who along with the returning Saheed Sankoh was brought in to bolster the midfield, beat two men before striking the crossbar midway through the half.

Sam Clayton was next to come close, robbing Sam Long in the corner before cutting inside and jinking round ex-Maidstone goalkeeper Andy Walker. However, from an acute angle, he was unable to beat Alex Bentley covering on the line. Ks' best chance of the half fell to Woods, but he blazed narrowly wide from a low Matt Pattison cross.

Simon Huckle had a free header just after the interval but could not direct it on target. Thereafter, however, it was the home side who came increasingly into the game and looked the more likely to score.

Long, who nearly joined Ks in the summer, made a strong driving run forward and forced Rob Tolfrey to save at the near post. Leigh Bremner had a free header but failed to find the power to trouble Tolfrey, who then saved from Tommy Whitenell. Cray bundled the rebound wide as Ks hung on to the clean sheet.

The final chance came in injury time but Tolfrey was again equal to it, comfortably reaching Jack Clark's free kick.
