Forest Green Rovers 1-0 Kingstonian
A Forest Green side with 9 changes from their first team managed to sneak a one goal win against a full K's side who failed to convert any of the numerous chances created. But they failed to ruin the great atmosphere at K's Web's first birthday party - with cake, candles and balloons !!

Kingstonian 1-0 Telford United
A 19th minute Eddie Akuamoah goal was enough to send K's to the top of the K's Web form guide. But worryingly, Simon Stewart was stretchered off in the second half and taken to hospital with a twisted neck. Gary Patterson picked up another yellow card which means that he will miss the Trophy replay with Northwich (if there is one).

Contributions to the Your Shout page
There's been a distinct lack of contributions to the Your Shout page since Tim Wells' attempt at a "song for K's". That is until now of course. David Hawkins (a Table One middle-aged drop-out so he says) has decided to put the world to rights via K's Web - all contributions gratefully received. His article is in response to an original article debating the two K's fanzines - Kool for K's and Weaving In And Out.

Patterson's not for sale
From some paper or other:

Patterson's not for sale

Kingstonian will not be progressing the enquiries for England international Gary Patterson which have been lodged from both Conference and League circles recently. Manager Geoff Chapple confirmed the growing interest in the 26-year-old mid-fielder shortly after Patterson's international debut in England's 4-1 victory over Italy last week. "We value Gary very highly and that's why we agreed a new two year contract earlier this year. He's an important part of our plans and anyone wishing to sign him would have to break the Conference transfer record to take him away from us," said Chapple. Patterson joined Kingstonian last season following a spell at Wycombe Wanderers and during his League career collected a Third Division championship medal with Shrewsbury Town.

Carr drives Ks on
From some paper or other:

Carr drives Ks on

Kingstonian reached the Quarter-Final of the FA Trophy for the first time since 1989-90 on Saturday and driving the team on was special guest Cornelius Carr who was invited to the pre-match team talk by Ks manager Geoff Chapple. The WBF World Boxing Champion, who lives in Kingston, was introduced to the Kingsmeadow players in the dressing room before the game as part of Mr Chapple's team-talk themed 'I only want to see winners'. "We were delighted to have Cornelius down here. He's achieved so much and has worked very hard for his success and that was the message I wanted to get over to the players," explained Chapple who has lifted the FA Umbro Trophy in three of the last five years. Boxer Carr's relationship with the Nationwide Conference club started just ten days ago when Kingstonian despatched a good luck fax to the boxer before his all-important title clinching bout in Middlesborough.

Five in Trophy quarters
From some paper or other:

Five in Trophy quarters

The Nationwide Conference will have a total of five representatives in the Quarter-Finals of the FA Trophy for the third time in four years. Leading the charge at the weekend were Trophy holders Cheltenham Town who carried their defence into the last eight with a 3-0 victory over Hendon. Steve Cotterill, who last year became the youngest manager ever to lift the honour, will be joined in the Quarter-Final by the one of the competition's most successful managers Geoff Chapple, who won the Trophy three times. (1994, 1995, 1997). Mr Chapple steered Kingstonian through at the expense of Nationwide Conference colleagues Yeovil Town, and will be joined by Quarter-Final debutante Forest Green Rovers, 1996 Finalists Northwich Victoria and the winners of the drawn tie between last season's beaten Finalists Southport and Woking.

Leworthy hits the top
From some paper or other:

Leworthy hits the top

One of the all-time top marksmen in the Nationwide Conference remains at the height of his career and being 36 makes no difference. Kingstonian striker David Leworthy has won The Mail on Sunday Goalscorer of the Month Award for February. The former Tottenham Hotspur and England semi-professional forward collected the UKP250 prize after hitting five goals during the month, to claim the honour for the fourth time in his career. Leworthy, who lifted The Mail on Sunday's annual award in 1992-93, staved off the challenge of another Conference veteran Farnborough Town's Mark West who finished joint runner-up with Hayes striker Lee Charles and Telford United's Gez Murphy, each hitting four goals.

The latest on the ground development situation
The latest on the ground development situation is: the Kingston Road End and the side opposite the current main stand will become "big" terraces. Seats are to be added to the front of the main stand, with future plans to build a two-sided stand at the Athletics End. All work should be started in June with some money coming from the lottery. Kingston Council is "fully behind the club" - just not with any money. A meeting for shareholders, season ticket holders and supporters will be held shortly.

Poles befriend Kings
From some paper or other:

Poles befriend Kings

Kingstonian could clinch a place in Europe next season, albeit as a possible guest of Polish title favourites Widzew Lodz. The Poles beat Kingstonian 3-1 in a friendly last week to complete their English tour which opened with a goalless draw at West Ham United. The Widzew side, which featured three of the Polish internationals likely to line up against England in the forthcoming European Championship qualifying match, plan a return to England next year. However, manager Geoff Chapple confirmed: "Widzew are an exciting side and play some excellent football. They have invited us out to Poland which could be a great opportunity to fly the flag for Nationwide Conference football"

Times: CHAPPLE GAINS HEAD START
From yesterday's Times:

CHAPPLE GAINS HEAD START by Walter Gammie

THE embrace between Geoff Chapple, the Kingstonian manager, and Colin Lippiatt, the Yeovil Town head coach, was heartfelt. As manager and coach, they shared much at Woking, including three FA Umbro Trophy triumphs at Wembley, so Chapple shared his old mate's pain after Kingstonian had seized a quarter-final place with a late goal at Kingsmeadow on Saturday. "I thought it was going to be 0-0," Chapple said. "But it was a brilliant free kick and a brilliant header." The winner came as a blinding flash of inspiration in a contest full of unyielding defending, committed work in midfield and a derth of clear-cut chances. Kofi Nyamah swung a curving free kick from the right touchline with his left foot and Simon Stewart timed his run to perfection to beat Pennock. Kingstonian's goal came after Leworthy had turned Hannigan and bounced a shot off the bar. For Yeovil, Pickard got behind the defence in the first half but failed to make his chances count on a bobbling pitch and Fishlock thumped a second-half free kick against the bar. A sub-plot was supplied by referee D'Urso, who, having issued bookings to Patterson, of Kingstonian, and Brown, of Yeovil, first shrank from issuing merited second yellow cards to Patterson and then Brown for late tackles. Consistent, at least. Chapple has high ambitions. He revealed a plan for a 1-million redevelopment to bring Kingsmeadow to Nationwide League standards has council support. Meanwhile, Wembley beckons. "The Trophy is something you get a taste for," he said. "Clive Walker's got four medals - I'd like to emulate that."

KINGSTONIAN (3-5-2):S Farrelly - S Stewart, M Crossley, M Harris - T Mustafa, K Rattray, G Patterson, G Pitcher, K Nyamah - E Akuamoah, D Leworthy.

YEOVIL TOWN (3-5-2): A Pennock - A-J Hannigan, R Cousins, K Brown - D Chandler, P Simpson, S Stott (sub: A Pounder, 69min), S Thompson, M Fishlock - O Pickard, W Patmore.

Referee: A D'Urso.
