Monday 30th August 1999
Hayes 1-2 Kingstonian
The lowest crowd of the day saw K's finally break their away duck in this season's campaign thanks to a brace by Eddie Akuamoah, with his first starting place since Telford. In another match which could have gone either way, for once it went Kingstonian's way and saw them return with three points. A report is available. Those three points move K's up to sixth in the table.

League table latest
Seeing as it's a bank holiday the K's league table, pen pics stats, and stats page will not be updated today, nor tomorrow, but in the meantime look here.

Interestingly, sixth place is only one point away from second palce, but significantly it is eight points away from the top spot as Stevenage made it six out of six against Kettering. Elsewhere, Sutton's point against Dover didn't really do them much good with both Forest Green and Altrincham winning at home. This puts Sutton bottom by a clear point.

Saturday 28th August 1999
Kingstonian 2-2 Altincham
K's could only pick up a point against previously goal-less and point-less Altrincham. Dave Leworthy scored a stunner of a goal continuing his fine form, whilst Pitcher got the other. Take a look at the report for more on this match.

Result round-up
The one consolation of this result is that it put Sutton a place lower than they would otherwise have been as they went down 4-0 against Rushden. Elsewhere, Stevenage made it 5 out of 5 leaving them a four point cushion at the top of the table. Oh, and Woking lost to a last minute goal :)

Independent: CHAPPLE PLANS FIVE-YEAR BALANCING ACT AT KINGSTONIAN
Many thanks to Dave for drawing our attention to the following article that appeared in today's Independent:

CHAPPLE PLANS FIVE-YEAR BALANCING ACT AT KINGSTONIAN

THIS IS an important season for Kingstonian, the holders of the FA Umbro Trophy. By next May supporters of the Surrey side will have a better idea about whether the Ks want to be a relatively successful non- League outfit - or a club with serious ambitions of Football League status.

What the fans do know is that the Kingstonian board has put its faith in manager Geoff Chapple, who signed a new five-year contract last week. In his two years with the club so far, he has taken them into the Nationwide Conference and then to Wembley, where they won the Trophy in May.

Chapple also enjoyed plenty of success in the Trophy and the FA Cup with his previous club, Woking. When it was put to him that it was about time he started winning leagues again, he replied: "I'm glad you said again.' As well as taking Kingstonian up, I got Woking from Division Two South of the Isthmian League to the Conference, so we must have won some leagues somewhere!"

Chapple knows, however, that steering Kingstonian into the Third Division will be his toughest challenge yet. "The Conference is the most difficult league to win," he said. "There are a lot of quality sides and only one team can go up. Until we can change that, and moves are afoot [he is also on the Conference management committee], it is a very hard task to gain promotion.

"But we have to balance what we're doing on the pitch with what needs to be done off the field," Chapple added. "There's a lot of work to do on the stadium to get it ready for the Football League, and it has to be done by April. It will cost around 500,000."

Asked what he thought his team, who have won two and lost two of their first four Conference games, might achieve by the end of his five-year contract, Chapple said: "I want to get into the Football League, and I always have done. The quicker I do it, the quicker I can get rid of my cup-winning tag!"

Wednesday 25th August 1999
Kettering 2-1 Kingstonian
Although K's did not play very well, they came off on the bad side of some very poor refereeing. Most notably, he missed a couple of K's penalties, and allowed the Poppies' second goal to stand when all in the ground saw that the ball had been punched into the goal Maradona style. A report is now availabe. Dave Leworthy got the K's goal.
[top of the page]
Result round-up
Elsewhere, Stevenage maintained their 100% record by winning at Sutton, and remain the only team to have such a record as Hednesford could only get a point from Scarborough. Woking picked up their first win of the season. All this puts K's in 9th. Check www.confguide.com for a league table. The K's Web services (stats, league table, form etc.) wil be back within the week.

Kingstonian 4-2 Southport
What a day yesterday was!! Kingstonian came back when losing 2-1 to Southport to gain full points by winning 4-2. A report of the events can be viewed. Leworthy was again a most important factor, getting his fifth goal in his second start this season. Again there was a Luckett goal from open play, and the other goal was scored by Marshall, opening his account in excuisite fashion. Junior Kadi, an on-loan signing from Whyteleaf, with league experience at Coventry was on the bench.
[top of the page]
Result round-up
Elsewhere, Surrey's lesser clubs both lost. Sutton's defeat at the hands of Hednesford sees the Midlands team retain a maximum point allocation. Stevenage also can boast that claim, whilst four clubs are still to gain a point. The K's Web League Table service will not be running until the Eagle has landed, but until then, a league table can be viewed from www.confguide.com. K's currently sit in fourth.

Scarborough under investigation
The Conference Chief Executive is to investigate Scarborough's treatment of away fans. It is alledged that the prices for comparible seating/terracing are more expensive for away fans, and this is not to be permitted. K's travel to Scarborough in 12 days...

Chapple interveiewed on BBC SCR
Extracts from a Chapple interview on BBC Southern Counties Radio are reported on Regional Ceefax pages. Concerning the five year contract which Big Fat Geoff has just signed, he said "I feel the time is right, despite having two years left on my old deal. I hope people will see my confidence in the club as a reason to get behind us and help realise our ambitions. There's a great potential here that may take 3 or 4 years to come to fruition".

Kingstonian 4-1 Dover Athletic
Kingstonian returned to form by beating Dover 4-1 at Kingsmeadow last night. A disappointingly low crowd witnessed Dave Leworthy's hat-trick and a Colin Luckett strike to see off the South Coast visitors. A report is available. The three points put K's in a heady 7th place. Meanwhile Forest Green's floodlights failed as they were losing 2-1 at home to Sutton, so the game was abandoned.

Result round-up
Stevenage remain sitting pretty at the top of the league after tonight's fixtures. The This Week page gives the results in full. Hednesford are the only other team to have a played two, won two record. Scarborough could only pick up a point at Southport, and Woking and Yeovil picked up their first points of the season. K's managed to go up one place as Kidderminster, Welling and Alricham lost their second games in a row.

Surrey Senior Cup shake-up
A slight shake up of the Surrey Senior Cup is expected according to Pete West and Ol' Dubbin. There will be a supplementary competition for all the "tiny Surrey Clubs", with the finalists given the right to join with "the big boys" in the first round proper. The Surrey FA is also to be more helpful to the county's three Conference clubs over the season, or so they say.

Telford United 1-0 Kingstonian
The season kicked off yesterday with many a shock. Not least of them was Kingstonian's defeat at the hands of Telford. A report of the disappointing display is available.

Result round-up
Elsewhere the bookies' favourites didn't do too well. All that is except Scarborough who thrashed Yeovil 5-0 at home. Other surprises were Woking's 4-1 defeat and Rushden failing to score at Morecambe. This leaves Kingstonian, Woking and Yeovil in the bottom three. Roll on Wednesday !!

Boreham Wood to be kicked out of the Cup and Trophy?
Boreham Wood may face expulsion from the FA Cup and FA Trophy unless their ex chairman, Phil Wallace, sells his shares in the club before the start of the Ryman League season. He is currently in power at Stevenage and FA rules do not permit having a controlling power of two clubs.

With just five days to go until the season kicks off, K's fans are asked to phone Len Pocock on 0181 399 8464 to book a place on the Supporters' Club coach. More Barrow turmoil
The Barrow saga continues... Bunkrupcy meant they had to leave the Conference despite not being relegated, but the Unibond League refuse to accept them arguing that they have been expelled and not relegated, and that the fixture list was already prepared. It has now lead to the situation that the FA have suspended all Unibond League action and barred those clubs from entering FA competitions. A good summary of the situation is available from the Leek web site, and the latest info can of course be found from the Non League on the net, and from the Conference guide.

Kingstonian lost 3-1 at Newport IOW on Saturday. Wingfield (again) scored the K's goal after they had gone 3 down inside half an hour. Dwight Marshall played for K's but Tarkan Mustafa is surely doubtful for the Telford game, not making the squad for the trip.
