Saturday 14th February 2009 |
Met Police 2-2 Kingstonian |
A late equalising strike by Met Police was not enough to oust Kingstonian from the top spot they have held since 20th September.
Bobby Traynor picked himself up to convert a 15th penalty to open the scoring for the K's before Michael Cobden pounced to level matters ten minutes before the break.
The parity was broken by another Traynor penalty, this time in the 56th minute after a foul on Carl Wilson-Denis. K's momentum was however broken following a lengthy delay for an injury to the referee, and the hosts took full advantage by scoring through ex-K Gary Drewitt with five minutes to go to share the spoils.

Update from Alan Dowson |
Manager Alan Dowson comments, "I'm obviously disappointed the game was off, especially when we'd put so much effort into it. Mark (Hams) was out forking the pitch at 5.15pm and until around 6pm it was fine. Martin (Tyler) meanwhile rushed here from the Brazil national team training session, and then there are obviously the players, Walton and everyone else who had arrived.
"We had to do some ringing around to find a venue for some training instead to keep the players occupied and in trim. Fortunately Keith Lyons at Hinchley Wood School again came to our help and we had an indoor session there.
"We're not worried about a fixture backlog and will take each game as it comes. If we didn't have the points in the bag and had some catching up to do it might be a different story, but we've got enough points to be top. We've got a big squad and know we can call on some good strength in depth when we need it." |
