July 2006

Saturday 29th July 2006
Farnham Town 1-2 Kingstonian
Second half goals from Richard Taylor and Dean Lodge secured a two-one win for Kingstonian away at Farnham Town in a somewhat entertaining game.

The hosts took an early lead in the fifth minute when Steve Symes was dispossessed for Alan Green to strike past Stephen Windegard. Tony Reid had K's best chance of the half just a minute later, but was denied by a flying save by Glenn Lynch.

Following a steady first half in which Scott Smith and James Rose made their first outings of the summer, both sides came out with attacking intent in the second period.

With ten minutes gone in the half, Dean Lodge crossed from the right for Richard Taylor to deftly flick across goal for the equaliser. Minutes late, K's took the lead when Tommy Moorhouse passed to Lodge who rounded to goalkeeper to score a fine goal.

The Kingstonian substitutes came close to adding further goals in the closing stages. Husani Thomas' floated shot clipped the crossbar, Danny Smart saw a header cleared off the line, Wes Harrison broke free before striking just over and Pablo Jenkins shaved the post with a low strike.

Havant & Waterlooville 2-1 Kingstonian
Kingstonian started their pre-season campaign at Conference South side Havant & Waterlooville in a game where they used 20 players in a rolling substitute environment.

The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute as Craig O'Connor flicked in a teasing left wing cross, before Charley Side struck an equaliser ten minutes after half time.

It wasn't just the weather that was hot in an unusually charged summer outing, and Havant took advantage of a much-contested free kick when Brett Poate blasted home an unstoppable free kick with a quarter of an hour remaining.

Dean Lodge, trialling for a return to K's, embarked upon a run which almost saw the scores levelled again in the dying stages, but trialist Pablo Jenkins was unable to convert past the goalkeeper.

Fixture change
The Dover Athletic v Kingstonian Ryman League game has been brought forward to Saturday 7th October.

The move ensures that should either club progress past their opening FA Trophy fixture, the original Saturday 4th November date would be free for the next round, thus avoiding a potential midweek trip to the Crabble at a later date.

Meanwhile, the FA Cup game with Pagham scheduled for Saturday 2nd September is like to be played on either the Friday evening or Sunday afternoon. The same arrangements would apply should K's progress to meet Ramsgate in the following round, currently listed on Saturday 16th September.

Team news
K's open their pre-season schedule at Havant & Waterlooville tomorrow missing all three senior goalkeepers through various minor injuries. Luke Garrard will resume training in a couple of weeks whilst Jonty Ventor and Alan Hughes are out with knocks to the knee and ankle respectively. Stephen Windegard, a former first year pro at Crystal Palace who has just graduated from Loughborough University, will therefore be lining up in goal.

Also absent will be Tony Reid, who is on holiday, whilst Scott Smith's return to the club will be delayed as he is also currently away. Right sided Wes Harrison, formerly of Sutton United and Leatherhead, and defender John Butler, a former first year pro at Charlton who has since been with Bromley and Dartford, are expected to try out.

Four sign contracts
Kingstonian FC are delighted to announce that, along with new goalkeeper Luke Garrard, Richard Taylor, Martyn Lee and James Rose have all signed new contracts with the club.

Bashiru Alimi
Bashiru Alimi has, after initially agreeing terms at the weekend, decided against signing a new contract and will be moving to Farnborough Town. The midfielder, a former Millwall trainee, considered that at the age of 24 a move to a Conference South club was something that he could not turn down.

Alimi had been with the K's since their return to the Ryman League in 2001, and with 220 appearances was the club's longest serving player [200th game presentation].

The club would like to thank 'Bash' for his service and wish him the best for the future. Head Coach Stuart McIntyre has stated that the door will be open for a return should the situation arise. Meanwhile, McIntyre has a couple of unnamed Ryman Premier players lined up as possible replacements.

Dave Collyer RIP - updated
It is with great sadness to report that former Kingstonian, Woking and Sutton goalkeeper Dave Collyer passed away last Friday after a long fight against a chronic illness.

Dave played for the K's in the late 1960's and mid 1970's before moving on to establish himself with both Woking and Sutton United, the latter with whom he appeared in the 1981 FA Trophy final before retiring in 1984.

The funeral will be held at the North East Surrey Crematorium on Thursday 13th July, at 1.30pm, followed by a reception at Sutton United.

Flowers may be sent to Truelove's of Cheam Village (31 High Street, Cheam, Surrey, SM3 8RE), to arrive no later than 11.30 am or donations may be made in memory of Dave to the Princess Alice Hospice, c/o Trueloves (please put your name on the back of the cheque).

Friends and football supporters are very welcome to pay their last respects to this very popular and much-admired player.

Admission Prices 2006/07
Kingstonian Football Club have announced new admission prices for the upcoming season as follows:

£8 Adult
£6 OAP/Student
£3 Junior (Under 16's)

The rise in some prices have been triggered by fundamental changes at the club, which is now fully VAT registered due to rising turnover levels.

Despite the increases, which are no more than a pound, it will cost the same to sit in the stands as it did when the club re-entered the Ryman League five years ago. The simplified pricing structure introduced last year means that there is no longer a premium to pay to sit in the main stand of what continues to be one of the best grounds at this level.

The prices will also apply to the pre-season programme in which Ks take on higher league opposition in the form of Lewes (5 August), AFC Wimbledon (12 August) and a Fulham XI (15 August).
